Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the US. She's worked as media critic since. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are depicted in popular culture. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities which have been marginalized. Sarkeesian, who holds a Master's in Political and Social Thought from York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. While a student at university Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights from a young age. A woman with ambitions to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. As a result of the many contributions she has made to feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received several awards and founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in media narratives.
